Patriarch Mar Awa III Royel meets French Consul General in Erbil to discuss regional peace and challenges

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — Patriarch of the Assyrian Church of the East Mar Awa III Royel welcomed Consul General of the French Republic in Erbil Mr. Yann Braem to the Patriarchal Residence in Erbil Governorate, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI).

The meeting covered a range of important topics, including the current situation in the Middle East and France’s role in fostering dialogue, mutual understanding, and peace in the region. Both sides emphasized the strong ties between the French government and the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

Discussions also focused on the challenges faced by the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian community in Iraq, particularly issues related to emigration. Efforts to improve the social and economic conditions for Chaldeans–Syriacs–Assyrians and other communities in the country were highlighted as a shared priority.

At the end of the meeting, Patriarch Mar Awa III gifted the Consul General Braem a book detailing the ancient and modern history of the Assyrian Church of the East, symbolizing the rich cultural and religious heritage of the Chaldean–Syriac–Assyrian people.
