Israeli Foreign Minister highlights concerns over Syrian conflict and regional stability

TEL AVIV / HOLEB, Syria — Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar stated that there are no favorable sides in the ongoing conflict in Syria, referring specifically to the army of Syrian Army, Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), and the Turkish-backed Syrian National Army (SNA).

Saar emphasized that Israel should prioritize the interests of the Kurds and other minorities in northern Syria. He suggested that the current conditions could provide an opportunity to enhance cooperation with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and advocate for a federalized Syria.

Israel’s Channel 12 reported that intelligence officials believe recent strikes targeting the Iranian axis and diverting attention from Hezbollah in Lebanon may contribute to maintaining stability along Israel’s northern borders. Such actions could also expand Israel’s operational freedom in the region.

The report further highlighted Israeli concerns over the potential fall of Syria’s strategic capabilities, including the possibility of chemical weapons remnants falling into the hands of armed factions.

Saar’s remarks underscore the complexities of the Syrian conflict and its implications for regional security, with Israel remaining vigilant about threats from both state and non-state actors.
