Christian Front in Lebanon: Window to elect president has closed, Hezbollah must be disarmed first

BEIRUT — During a regular meeting at its headquarters in Beirut’s Achrafieh neighborhood, the Christian Front in Lebanon urged opposition parties and Members of Parliament (MPs) to request the international community to deploy US, British, and German deterrent forces to Lebanon.

“The mission of these forces would be to implement UN Security Council Resolution 1559 under Chapter VII, compelling the disarmament of Hezbollah (the Islamic Resistance in Lebanon), Palestinian organizations, and other groups by force,” the Front stated. “This would limit weapons solely to the Lebanese Army, which must be bolstered with full resources. This measure follows the anticipated failure of the ceasefire agreement [between Hezbollah and Israel].”

The Christian Front asserted that the ideology and strategic objectives of Iran and Hezbollah are fundamentally incompatible with the establishment of a free state governed by justice, democracy, and the rule of law.

“Hezbollah continues to destabilize Lebanon, infiltrating southern villages and refusing to relinquish its arms to the Lebanese Army. It disregards its commitments under previously agreed terms,” the Front added, condemning the militia’s actions as a threat to Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.

The Front also called on all Lebanese citizens, particularly those in the south, to demonstrate against what it described as a “terrorist militia” that endangers the nation’s future in pursuit of Iranian ambitions.

Additionally, the Front appealed to the Minister of Interior and Municipalities to direct security forces to remove images of militia leaders displayed along the road leading to Rafik Hariri International Airport, labeling them a provocation to the Lebanese state and its citizens.

On the topic of Lebanon’s presidential election, the Front argued that electing a president under the current circumstances would not serve the nation’s interests. It urged opposition MPs to delay the process until US President Donald Trump officially assumed office. Following this, the Front called for early, free, and internationally monitored parliamentary elections to allow the Lebanese people to replace MPs aligned with Iran’s agenda.

“Only after these steps can Lebanon elect a president capable of steering the country towards just and comprehensive peace, positioning it positively among the nations,” the statement concluded.
