Suroyo Media Foundation hosts St. Barbara’s Day celebration in Zalin, North and East Syria
ZALIN, North and East Syria — The Suroyo Media Foundation organized a festive celebration in honor of St. Barbara’s Day outside its headquarters in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria, in collaboration with the Syriac Cultural Association in Syria.
The event brought together members of the Suroyo Media Foundation, officials from the Syriac Cultural Association, media personnel, and dozens of Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) children and their families.
A highlight of the celebration was the preparation of Salika (boiled wheat), a traditional dish integral to the occasion. Children, dressed in festive costumes, performed traditional dabke dances and sang the popular tune “Heshle Barbara, maa banet el Hara” (“Barbara runs amok with the girls of the neighborhood”).
The boiled wheat was later distributed to the attendees, who expressed gratitude to the Suroyo Media Foundation for organizing the event and bringing joy to the children.
