Divine Liturgy held at Syriac Orthodox Church of St. George in Holeb (Aleppo), Syria

HOLEB, Syria — In the aftermath of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s (HTS) recent takeover of the majority of the northern Syrian city of Holeb (Aleppo), Father Shukry Tuma led a Divine Liturgy at Syriac Orthodox Church of St. George in the Al-Suryan (Syriac) neighborhood.

The service was attended by Father Aday Maher, church deacons, and a congregation of devoted believers.

The Christian community in Holeb, as well as Christians worldwide, have expressed deep concern following HTS’s advance into the city. Holeb, known for its historic and significant Christian presence spanning centuries, remains a focal point of worry amid the ongoing conflict.

Adding to the tension, the predominantly Christian Sulaymaniyah neighborhood in Holeb was targeted by Russian airstrikes just a day after HTS forces seized control of parts of the city.
