Syriac Union Party and dozens of other groups condemn attacks by Turkey in northern Syria, call for international intervention

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Amid daily violations by armed groups of the Turkish-proxy Syrian National Army (SNA), 34 Syrian political parties and movements, representing various regional communities, issued a strong condemnation of attacks targeting civilians in northern Syria.

In a unified statement, the groups reaffirmed their readiness to defend the region through all available means, expressing solidarity with the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the local populations in facing ongoing challenges. They highlighted the importance of community-based defense, with some members joining the Civil Protection Forces (HPC) to safeguard the home front.

The statement also criticized the recent takeover of Holeb (Aleppo) by Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), a group designated as a terrorist organization on international lists, and the SNA. It warned that HTS’s efforts to expand its control into additional areas would further destabilize the region, exacerbating insecurity in Syria and particularly in northeast Syria.

It also condemned the violent actions of these factions, including massacres and forced displacements targeting local communities, labeling them as war crimes. The statement argued that such violations could have been avoided if the Syrian regime had engaged in constructive dialogue with the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and democratic parties to resolve the Syrian crisis peacefully.

The signatories called on the international community, human rights organizations, and humanitarian bodies to fulfill their obligations toward displaced civilians. They urged the international coalition and Russia to intervene and prevent Turkish proxy factions from occupying Syrian territory, stressing the importance of maintaining Syria’s territorial integrity and advancing a political solution to the crisis.

The statement concluded with an appeal to prioritize unity, stability, and democratic resolutions for the future of Syria and its people.
