Syriacs–Assyrians celebrate fall of Syrian regime with mass marches in Zalin (Qamishli) and Hasakah

ZALIN and HASAKAH, North and East Syria — Hundreds of members from the institutions of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) and large crowds of Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) citizens took to the streets in Zalin (Qamishli) and Hasakah to celebrate the fall of the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad.

The marches began in front of the Syriac Cultural Association in Zalin and continued through neighborhoods in Hasakah. Participants chanted slogans of hope for a new beginning in Syria, emphasizing the importance of building a democratic state that respects the rights of all ethnic components, including the Syriac (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) people.

The marches saw widespread participation from various segments of society in the region, highlighting the broad popular support for this transformative moment in Syria’s history.

These celebrations coincide with a period of significant political change in Syria, following the rapid collapse of the regime and the opposition’s control over most Syrian territories in recent weeks. There is growing hope that this new phase will pave the way for peaceful coexistence and transitional justice.

In related developments, the Syriac Security Forces (Sutoro) and the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS) have assumed control of former regime-held headquarters in various areas where the Syriac (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans) community is present in Zalin.
