USUP President Ibrahim Mrad celebrates overthrow of Syrian regime, calls for unity in Syria’s reconstruction

BEIRUT — Following the overthrow of the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad, head of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad congratulated the Syrian people and all their communities on achieving this historic milestone. Mrad highlighted the steadfastness of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people, among other groups, in toppling what he described as a regime of injustice and crime that had long deprived the Middle East of peace and stability.

Mrad urged Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) political parties, political organizations, and Christian Churches across all sects to convene and craft a unified roadmap to secure their religious and national rights in Syria’s forthcoming constitution. He emphasized that the Syriac Union Party was among the first to join the Syrian revolution, providing support both domestically and internationally. He also paid tribute to the Syriac Military Council (Mawtbo Fulhoyo Suryoyo, MFS), acknowledging its sacrifices in fighting the Baathist regime and the Islamic State (ISIS).

Mrad called for a new chapter of relations between Lebanon and Syria, rooted in mutual respect for sovereignty and aimed at overcoming the animosities fostered by the former regime. He appealed to Syrians in exile to return home and contribute to the rebuilding of their nation.

Concluding his statement, Mrad expressed hope for peace, security, and stability in Syria. He called on all opposition factions to come together, draft a democratic constitution, and establish a system that embraces pluralism and safeguards the rights of all nationalities and sects without exclusion.
