Political parties in North and East Syria celebrate fall of Assad regime, call for end of hostilities in northeast and national democratic transition

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In the wake of the momentous fall of Syria’s authoritarian Baath regime, 34 political parties and movements in North and East Syria, including the Syriac Union Party (SUP), issued a joint statement addressing the Syrian people across all communities. They hailed the event as the end of a dark chapter in Syria’s modern history, marking a significant shift toward freedom and dignity.

The statement highlighted the suffering endured under the Baath regime, which imposed tyranny, marginalization, and division to undermine the country’s national fabric and solidify its rule. Despite these hardships, the statement affirmed, the will of the people has triumphed over oppression, ushering in a historic moment of transformation.

The parties called on all ethnic and religious communities — Syriacs (Arameans–Assyrians–Chaldeans), Kurds, Arabs, Yezidis and other communities — to protect the achievements of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) and support the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). They described the SDF as a unifying national force committed to safeguarding all components of society and promoting pluralism and democracy as cornerstones of Syria’s future.

Emphasizing the challenges ahead, the statement urged collective action to ensure security and stability, promote inclusive national dialogue, and lay the foundations for a democratic, pluralistic, and decentralized Syria.

In conclusion, the parties appealed to the people to remain vigilant and responsible, stressing that while the road ahead is fraught with challenges, it also offers hope for building a democratic homeland that respects and unites all its citizens.
