Church of St. Jacob of Nisibis in Werl, Germany, organizes aid for Syriac–Assyrian communities in Syria

WERL, Germany — The Church of St. Jacob of Nisibis in Werl, Germany, together with its Local Council and congregation, has launched a fundraising campaign to support the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in Syria amidst the country’s dire humanitarian crisis.

Gabro Tuma, a representative of the Syriac Cross Relief and Development organization, highlighted the ongoing struggles following the fall of the Assad regime, which ruled for over 50 years. Despite the regime’s collapse, Syria remains embroiled in clashes and widespread displacement, particularly in North and East Syria.

“Syriac people are enduring incredibly difficult conditions and urgently need support from donors in European countries,” Tuma stated. He praised the efforts of the Church of St. Jacob of Nisibis, its Local Council, and its believers for organizing the initiative.

Tuma also emphasized the instability facing the Syriac community, with many contemplating asylum due to the volatile situation. He called on all Syriac individuals and supporters to contribute generously to aid those in need in the homeland of Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia).

The ongoing campaign reflects the solidarity of the Syriac diaspora in Europe with their fellow citizens enduring hardship in Syria.
