Hayat Tahrir al-Sham appoints Muhammad al-Bashir as new interim Prime Minister in Syria

DARAMSUQ — Following a meeting between Ahmed al-Sharaa, leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham and formerly known as Mohammed al-Jolani, former regime Prime Minister Muhammad al-Jalali, and Muhammad al-Bashir, Prime Minister of the Salvation Government in Edleb (Idlib), the Military Operations Department in Syria announced the appointment of Muhammad al-Bashir as the new head of the interim government. Al-Bashir succeeds Muhammad al-Jalali in this critical role.

The new government will prioritize key ministries in its initial phase, focusing on Defense, Foreign Affairs, Interior, and Media. Subsequent phases will expand to include other governmental sectors as part of a broader administrative overhaul.

Born in Edleb Governorate in 1983, Muhammad al-Bashir holds a degree in electrical and electronic engineering from the University of Aleppo. Additionally, he earned a degree in Sharia and Law from the University of Idlib and a certificate in planning and administrative organization principles.

Al-Bashir’s career began in 2011 as the head of the precision equipment department at a gas plant under the Syrian Gas Company. During the Syrian revolution, he transitioned into various leadership roles within the opposition’s Salvation Government, culminating in his appointment as its head earlier this year.

The appointment marks a new chapter in the governance of opposition-controlled areas in Syria, with al-Bashir expected to play a central role in navigating the complex political and security landscape.
