Christian Front in Lebanon congratulates Syrians on fall of Assad regime
BEIRUT — During its regular meeting at its headquarters in Achrafieh, Beirut, the Christian Front in Lebanon congratulated the Syrian people on overthrowing the authoritarian regime of Bashar al-Assad. The Front emphasized that this marks a significant defeat for the Iranian-led axis of resistance, which linked the Islamic Republic of Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.
The Christian Front stated that the collapse of Assad’s regime represents a pivotal turning point, with implications for Lebanon’s sovereignty. It called for the return of all Lebanese leaders and exiles who faced persecution under the former regime.
The Front stated that, in Lebanon, the sovereign axis is now the primary victor in this regional shift. However, it cautioned against repeating past mistakes from 2005, including reliance on outdated concepts such as “consensus, openness, reconciliation, or neutrality.” The Front insisted that the new foundational phase in Lebanon must be bold, rejecting compromises or tribal politics, and allowing the victorious sovereign forces to dictate political conditions.
It demanded the prosecution of Hezbollah’s remaining political and military leaders, barring them from participating in Lebanon’s political life. Furthermore, the Christian Front called for the dissolution of parties that reject the finality of Lebanon’s independence, such as the Syrian Social Nationalist Party and the Arab Socialist Baath Party, urging the closure of their offices and prosecution of their members.
Addressing the upcoming political restructuring, the Christian Front emphasized the need to address Lebanon’s societal crisis by adopting federalism. This system, it argued, would preserve Lebanon’s religious and cultural pluralism while countering demographic imbalances exacerbated by a centralized political structure.
The Front also urged the Lebanese Army to take decisive action, including resolving the fate of detainees in Syrian prisons, securing borders against both legal and illegal crossings, and preventing the entry of Assad’s affiliates and Iranian operatives, many of whom have sought refuge in Lebanon’s hotels.
In conclusion, the Christian Front called for a new political order that prioritizes sovereignty, pluralism, and accountability, ensuring a stable and independent future for Lebanon.
