Heads of churches in Holeb (Aleppo), Syria met with and representatives of Military Operations Command of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham
HOLEB, Syria — After the fall of the former authoritarian Syrian regime, heads of churches in Holeb (Aleppo), Syria met with and representatives of Military Operations Command of the Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS).
The meeting which was held at the Franciscan Monastery also included the Apostolic Vicar of Latin Archbishop Hanna Jalouf.
Chaldean archbishop of Holeb (Aleppo) Antoine Audo stated that archbishops, priests and monks attended the meeting, which was very positive.
Audo declared that the HTS wants to give confidence, amid the dire conditions to secure a living.
Audo added that the HTS does not show any indicators to impose changes in the ordinary life of church groups, noting that it seeks to give confidence by showing respect for the traditions of Christians and their prayers.
The archbishop explained to the HTS members that Christians cannot be second-class citizens.
He also presented examples from history between Muslims and Christians, as well as the contribution of Christians to this history.
Heads of churches confirmed that there will be no changes to their mixed school systems.
According to Audo, life is returning to normal, with difficulties in obtaining basic necessities.
However, all church groups are implementing initiatives to allow people to at least secure food, and they are preparing to celebrate Christmas soberly.
