Global Orthodox Church leaders express solidarity with Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch Church of Antioch amid political transition in Syria

DARAMSUQ — In a phone call, Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia conveyed the love and solidarity of the Russian Orthodox Church to Patriarch John X Yazigi, leader of the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East, and to the faithful of the Church of Antioch. Patriarch Kirill reaffirmed the unwavering support of the Russian Church for the Church of Antioch during Syria’s current challenges.

Both patriarchs highlighted the enduring role of Christians in the Middle East, emphasizing a perspective that transcends the notion of majority and minority populations. They celebrated the ancient presence and vital contributions of Christians to the region over the past 2,000 years.

Patriarch John X expressed gratitude for the solidarity extended by the Russian Orthodox Church, underscoring the deep historical and spiritual ties between the two churches.



In a separate communication, Patriarch Porphyrius of Belgrade and All Serbia also conveyed the Serbian Orthodox Church’s support for the Church of Antioch and its believers. He emphasized the Serbian Orthodox Church’s commitment to praying for peace in Syria, Palestine, and Lebanon.

These messages of solidarity underscore the strong bonds between global Orthodox churches and their shared concern for the challenges faced by Christians in the Middle East.
