Syriac Cross provides aid to displaced Yezidi families in Qabre Hewore, North and East Syria

QABRE HEWORE, North and East Syria — Amid the displacement of thousands of families from Tel Rifaat and Al-Shahba in the northern countryside of Holeb (Aleppo) to North and East Syria, various humanitarian initiatives have emerged to support those in need. One such effort comes from Stichting Schlomo and the Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development, which has provided critical aid to displaced Yezidi families.

Syriac Cross announced that it distributed heaters and hygiene kits to several displaced Yezidi families in Qabre Hewore (Qahtaniyah), located in the eastern countryside of Zalin (Qamishli), as part of an effort to alleviate their suffering during the winter.

Malek Hanna, Syriac Cross official in Syria, stated that they coordinated with the Yezidi House in Qabre Hewore to provide assistance. He highlighted the difficult living conditions, noting that multiple families are often forced to share a single house due to a lack of adequate shelter.

“This step is an emergency response,” Hanna explained, “but we are seeking additional support to meet urgent needs, including infant formula and food baskets.”

Nasim Shammo, a member of the Cafrin (Afrin) Displaced People Support Committee, expressed gratitude to the Syriac Cross for their aid. Speaking to our news desk, Shammo emphasized the particular hardship faced by Yezidi families, many of whom have been displaced for the second time — first from Cafrin and now from Al-Shahba and Tel Rifaat.

The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) has instructed all its institutions to facilitate the passage of displaced people. Despite limited resources, DAARNES continues to provide significant assistance to the displaced families, underscoring its commitment to supporting those affected by the ongoing crisis.
