Civil society organizations call on EU for inclusive political transition plan in Syria

ZALIN, North and East Syria — A coalition of 78 civil society organizations (CSO) operating in Syria, including the Syriac Cross Organization for Relief and Development, submitted a letter to the European Union (EU) urging the development of a political transition plan that includes all Syrians, encompassing the country’s diverse ethnic communities.

The letter outlined four key recommendations:

    1. Immediate and Permanent Ceasefire implemented across Syria under the supervision of the United Nations.
    2. Inclusive Syrian-Led Dialogue among all Syrian factions.
    3. Democratic Reforms and Political Transition establishing democratic governance and reforming political structures.
    4. Transitional Justice and Institutional Reform preserving state institutions while ensuring a comprehensive approach to reform and accountability.

The signatory organizations expressed their shared belief that Syrians deserve a future rooted in a pluralistic, democratic system that respects the rights of all citizens and celebrates the nation’s rich diversity.

They also emphasized the importance of support from the EU and the international community, calling for concrete assistance to ensure peace, stability, and justice in Syria and neighboring countries. This, they argued, is vital to achieving a sustainable and inclusive transition process.
