Bethnahrin National Council aims to safeguard Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) rights amid Middle East upheaval

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — As Syria undergoes a historic transformation following the overthrow of its previous regime and amid rapid developments across the Middle East, Echoue Gouriye, a member of the Presidential Committee of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), emphasized the critical importance of these changes for the peoples of the region, including the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.

In a statement to Syriac Press, Gouriye affirmed the MUB’s commitment to protecting the rights and future of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and Christians across the region. He highlighted the MUB’s comprehensive political program, which focuses on safeguarding their heritage, securing their rightful place, and ensuring their representation at both the national and regional levels.

“The Council is dedicated to organizing the forces within this region to provide effective political representation and achieve the aspirations of Christians in the Middle East,” Gouriye explained. He underscored the Council’s mission to establish and defend the rights of these communities during this pivotal period in the region’s history.

Gouriye also pointed out the global interest in the developments unfolding in the Middle East, stressing the importance of proactive efforts by the MUB to fulfill its obligations. “We have a clear vision and a project in place,” he said. “Our duty is to make every sacrifice necessary to achieve the goals and dreams of the Syriac [Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean] people.”

The statement reflects the Council’s unwavering determination to ensure the security, representation, and recognition of one of the region’s oldest communities as the Middle East undergoes significant political and social change.
