Syriac Union Party hosts lecture in Zalin, North and East Syria, to discuss future of Syriac-Assyrian rights in Syria

ZALIN, North and East Syria — As part of its ongoing efforts to engage with the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community and address regional developments, the Syriac Union Party (SUP) organized a lecture in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria. The event featured Echoue Gouriye, a member of the Presidential Committee of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB), and Sanharib Barsom, the Co-Chair of the Syriac Union Party (SUP). The lecture attracted a significant number of attendees from the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community.

Robel Bahou, a member of the SUP General Council and head of the party’s Zalin (Qamishli) branch, explained to Syriac Press that the rapidly evolving situation in Syria necessitated such lectures. He emphasized the importance of educating the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community about the new phase Syria is entering, the associated challenges, and the opportunities it presents.

Bahou highlighted the critical need for unity within the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community to support their national parties and Churches. He urged them to consolidate their demands and present them to global and regional powers, as well as national forces in Syria. This, he said, was essential to ensuring the recognition of the rights of all components of Syrian society, including the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

During the lecture, the speakers addressed a variety of questions from the audience, particularly concerning the future of Syria following the rise of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham’s government and its pledges regarding religious freedom, especially for Christians.

The attendees expressed their gratitude to the Syriac Union Party for organizing the event, which provided clarity on many pressing issues. They emphasized the importance of unity among the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and the broader Christian community during this critical period to secure their rights in Syria’s new constitution.

The lecture underscored the Syriac Union Party’s commitment to fostering dialogue and ensuring the active participation of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in shaping Syria’s future.
