SYRIA: Syriac Women’s Union and Syriac Cultural Association bring Christmas cheer to displaced families from Al-Shahba and Tel Rifaat

ZALIN, North and East Syria — To mark the advent of Christmas and the New Year, a delegation from the Syriac Women’s Union (SWU) in Syria, alongside the Syriac Cultural Association, visited shelters housing people from Al-Shahba and Tel Rifaat displaced by the Turkish-proxy Syrian National Army (SNA) offensive. The organizations distributed gifts to bring joy to the children and alleviate the suffering of displaced families.

Georgette Barsomo, a representative of the SWU, told our news desk that the initiative aimed to provide symbolic gifts to displaced women facing immense challenges. She noted that the event boosted the morale of the women and offered an opportunity for the SWU to understand their struggles more deeply. Barsomo expressed hope for relief from their hardships and a renewed sense of hope for Syria’s future.

She also extended wishes of peace and love across Syria, urging stakeholders to gain a better understanding of the broader Syrian crisis and the specific challenges faced by women.

Ruba al-Farehat, an official from the Syriac Cultural Association, highlighted the entertainment activities organized for displaced children. The initiative aimed to ease the burden of displacement and bring moments of joy to the young ones. Al-Farehat expressed hope that the coming year would usher in peace and love for all of Syria.

North and East Syria have recently witnessed an influx of displaced families from Al-Shahba and Tel Rifaat after Turkish-backed factions seized control of these areas approximately three weeks ago.
