Church leaders call for peace and unity in Middle East this Christmas and New Year

BETH NAHRIN — As Christmas and the New Year approach, Church leaders from various Christian communities have issued messages of hope and faith, particularly for Christians in the Middle East. Among them, the Council of Presidents of Christian Communities in Iraq expressed steadfast faith amidst regional conflicts and tensions, wishing that the new year would bring peace and unity to all hearts.

Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II released a heartfelt statement urging Christians to hold firm to their faith. He called for an end to wars and violence, appealing to governments, international organizations, and world leaders to work towards spreading peace. His message highlighted the critical phase Syria is currently experiencing, emphasizing the existential challenges faced by Christians in the region.

Similarly, Syriac Catholic Patriarch Mar Ignatius Joseph III Younan called for a year of goodness and peace for Syria, Iraq, Lebanon, and the broader Middle East. He reflected on the ongoing wars, tensions, and rapid changes affecting the region, urging unity and resilience in the face of adversity.
