Iraq forms joint committee to protect Christian, Yezidi, and Mandean property rights
BAGHDAD — In a significant move to address the illegal seizure of minority-owned property in Iraq, Rami Joseph, head of the Christian, Yezidi, and Mandaean Endowments Office, announced the formation of a joint committee in collaboration with the Iraqi Supreme Judicial Council.
Joseph stated that the committee will work closely with the relevant courts to initiate legal actions against individuals or entities who have unlawfully seized properties belonging to Christian, Yezidi, and Mandean citizens.
This step follows an earlier announcement by the Iraqi Ministry of Justice regarding a similar committee, which includes representatives from the Christian, Yazidi, and Mandaean Endowments courts. This body was established to address complaints of fraud and unauthorized transfers of real estate owned by Christian, Yezidi, and Mandean citizens.
The joint effort underscores the Iraqi government’s commitment to safeguarding the property rights of minorities, promoting justice, and ensuring the protection of all citizens’ legal and civil rights.
