Olaf Taw Association for Syriac Language oversee operation of schools formerly in Syrian regime territory in Zalin (Qamishli) and Hasakah

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Following the fall of the Syrian regime and the withdrawal of its forces from North and East Syria, the Internal Security Forces (ISF) swiftly moved to safeguard institutions abandoned by the regime, preventing them from becoming targets of aggression, looting, or sabotage, as seen in other parts of Syria.

In this effort, the Education Authority in North and East Syria has taken steps to protect schools in coordination with the ISF. Josephine Soume, an official of the Olaf Taw Association for the Syriac Language in Zalin (Qamishli), confirmed to our news desk that a meeting was convened between the Education Authority, the management of Olaf Taw, and the Education Directorate in Hasakah.

According to Soume, the meeting concluded with an agreement to continue the academic year using the current curriculum to avoid disruptions to the educational process and minimize impacts on students. She further explained that private schools affiliated with Churches in the region will be overseen by Olaf Taw, with administrative representatives present in each school.

Several schools in Zalin and Hasakah had been operating under the curricula of the former regime prior to its collapse on 8 December, following the takeover by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS). The collaborative efforts aim to ensure stability and continuity in education amid the transitional phase.
