Seminar in Wiesbaden, Germany, marks 100 years since displacement of Syriac–Assyrian people from Hakkari

WIESBADEN, Germany — In commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the displacement of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people from Hakkari, Turkey, in 1924, a dialogue seminar was held at St. Isaiah Church in Wiesbaden, Germany. The event was led by Shamosha Ghassan Younan and Tuma Ҫelik, former Syriac member of Turkish Parliament and representative of the European Syriac Union (ESU).

The seminar attracted political parties representing the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community, politicians, and a large audience of local residents. Discussions included an in-depth analysis of the historical violations that led to the displacement of the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people.

Attendees actively participated by asking questions, which were addressed by the organizers and representatives of various organizations, including the Assyrian Democratic Organization (ADO), Assyrian Democratic Party (ADP), European Syriac Union (ESU), Bet Nahrain Democratic Party, and the Assyrian World Federation.

The participants emphasized the importance of such seminars in raising awareness about the history and ongoing issues facing the Syriac people. Many attendees expressed the desire for these events to be held regularly to foster greater understanding and collaboration.
