Deputy Chair of Syrian Democratic Council Afram Ishak stresses need for civil peace and inclusive constitution
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In an interview on AlyoumTV, Deputy Chair of the Syrian Democratic Council (SDC) Afram Ishak emphasized that Syria is at a critical crossroads where moving beyond the past and forging new relations is essential for building a future for all Syrians.
Ishak highlighted the suffering endured by Syrians under the Ba’ath Party’s rule, pointing out that the 2011 uprising was derailed by foreign interventions and ideologies that deviated the revolution’s course, leading to religious and ethnic divisions.
He held the Syrian regime responsible for fragmenting the demands of Syrians and deepening societal divisions.
According to Ishak, the post-regime phase must prioritize achieving civil peace, which he described as the cornerstone for establishing a strong, inclusive new Syria that accommodates all its diverse components.
He stressed that while the pain and suffering of Syrians cannot easily be forgotten, the only path forward is to focus on rebuilding lives and working toward a brighter future.
Ishak also underlined the necessity of a future constitution that guarantees the rights of all Syrians, regardless of their backgrounds. He expressed optimism about emerging positive indications in this regard.
“If the new Syrian administration is open to dialogue and constructive engagement, it will be welcomed by the SDC toward comprehensive solutions through consensus among all Syrian entities,” he added.
Ishak called for dialogue and collective action to build a democratic Syria that embraces all its citizens and put an end to decades of oppression and division.
