European Syriac Union to join Strasbourg Meeting on Syria’s Crisis

STRASBURG, France — In recent years, Syria has undergone profound political and social upheavals. These crises, fueled by conflict and ideological divides, have devastated the country’s diverse ethnic and religious communities. Groups such as Christians, including Syriacs (Arameans-Chaldeans-Assyrians), as well as Kurds, Yezidis, Druze, and others have faced targeted persecution, including ethnic cleansing, desecration of sacred sites, human rights violations, and forced displacement.

The Council of Europe in Strasbourg, France, will host a pivotal meeting addressing the ongoing crisis in Syria. The European Syriac Union (ESU) will participate, contributing its perspective on the critical challenges facing the region.

The Strasbourg meeting aims to tackle these issues, with the ESU presenting insights on the political, social, and humanitarian dimensions of the crisis. The discussion will spotlight the plight of marginalized communities and explore pathways toward justice and recognition.

Scheduled for 11:00 a.m., on January 4, at the Council of Europe headquarters, the event is open to all stakeholders. The ESU urges representatives, advocates, and concerned citizens to attend and contribute to this collective effort to address Syria’s complex challenges.

This gathering represents a crucial step in amplifying the voices of those most affected by the crisis. The ESU calls on all members of the Syriac community and other impacted groups to participate in this event, emphasizing the importance of unity and advocacy in pursuing justice.
