Administration of North and East Syria condemns incitement against Syrian Democratic Forces, calls for accountability over divisive rhetoric
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — Jamil al-Hassan, who identifies as a media figure, released a video inciting hostility against the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES).
In response to the footage, the DAARNES Media Directorate issued a statement condemning the content as a blatant attempt to sow discord and undermine the unity and cohesion among Syria’s diverse ethnic communities.
The Directorate emphasized that the SDF has been critical in ensuring safety against terrorism, not only in North and East Syria but across the entire country and beyond. The international community has repeatedly acknowledged the SDF’s role in defeating the Islamic State (ISIS) and continuing to counter its resurgence.
The statement described Hassan’s comments as reflective of an authoritarian mentality reminiscent of the former Syrian regime. It noted that such rhetoric serves Syria’s adversaries, particularly at a time when efforts are focused on unifying the country’s territory and people.
Furthermore, the Directorate criticized Hassan’s remarks as violating the principles and ethics outlined in the press code of conduct, accusing him of inciting hatred and violence. It called for accountability, asserting that such statements have no place in responsible journalism.
The statement concluded by acknowledging Syria’s transitional phase, during which its people —representing all ethnic and religious groups —are striving for reconciliation, healing, and the establishment of a homeland where everyone can live freely and with dignity. It highlighted the vision of a united Syria as a vibrant mosaic, celebrating the diversity that defines the nation.
