Ibrahim Mrad condemns Hezbollah threats, calls for disarmament and sovereignty in Lebanon
BEIRUT — President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad strongly condemned recent threats made by Hezbollah and underscored the urgent need to disarm the Iranian-backed militia. He called for the enforcement of UN Security Council Resolution 1559 to restore Lebanon’s sovereignty and security.
Following an emergency meeting of the Sovereign Front in Lebanon, Mrad denounced remarks by Wafiq Safa, a senior Hezbollah official, as a stark reminder of the militia’s extremist and violent nature.
“Hezbollah’s rhetoric and actions continue to destabilize Lebanon,” Mrad stated, accusing the group of employing sectarian tactics that erode national unity and threaten the country’s fragile stability.
He advocated for international intervention to address Hezbollah’s armed dominance. Mrad proposed the deployment of multinational forces, including US, British, and German troops, to dismantle Hezbollah’s weapons and secure the nation.
He stressed that the Lebanese Army should remain the sole protector of Lebanon’s borders and institutions, steering clear of internal conflicts.
Political Reform and Electoral Integrity
On the issue of Lebanon’s ongoing presidential vacancy, Mrad warned against electing a figurehead president who serves foreign interests. He called for early parliamentary elections to replace lawmakers influenced by Hezbollah and Iranian funding.
Mrad emphasized the importance of electing representatives committed to prioritizing Lebanon’s national interests and fostering a government free from external manipulation.
In his closing remarks, Mrad urged all sovereign forces in Lebanon to unite against Hezbollah’s dominance. He reaffirmed the Lebanese people’s widespread rejection of militia control and called for collective action to reclaim the state’s institutions from foreign influence.
“Lebanon’s sovereignty and future depend on our ability to resist external agendas and restore our nation’s independence,” Mrad concluded.
