Administration of North and East Syria calls for inclusive representation in Transition Government

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — The Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) has called on Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), which assumed power in Syria last month, to ensure inclusive representation of all Syrians in the nation’s political transition and future.

Speaking at a press briefing, Hussein Osman, Co-Chair of the DAARNES’s Executive Council, stressed the need for a national conference that brings together all political forces in Syria.

“We need a national conference free from foreign interference and narrow agendas,” Osman said. He urged the formation of a preparatory committee to organize the conference, ensuring broad inclusivity and learning from the mistakes of the previous regime.

Commitment to Dialogue

Osman reaffirmed DAARNES’s initiative for Syrian-Syrian dialogue, launched even before the fall of the dictatorship of Bashar al-Assad. He highlighted DAARNES’s dedication to maintaining Syria’s sovereignty and resisting regional violations. While advocating for a decentralized governance model, Osman emphasized that this issue should be addressed through national dialogue.

Government Preparations

Meanwhile, Syria’s Foreign Minister, Asaad al-Shibani, announced that the transitional government is working on assembling a broad preparatory committee to represent all segments of Syrian society. This committee will facilitate the National Dialogue Conference, which al-Shibani described as a cornerstone of Syria’s future.

Al-Shibani acknowledged delays in organizing the conference, originally scheduled for earlier this month, citing the need for thorough preparations to ensure comprehensive representation. While specific dates for the committee’s formation and the conference have yet to be announced, the minister stressed the importance of creating a platform that genuinely reflects the will of the Syrian people.

Looking Ahead

The DAARNES and interim government share a common goal of fostering unity among Syria’s diverse communities. As the country navigates its transitional period, the emphasis on inclusivity and dialogue underscores the urgency of creating a democratic, representative future for all Syrians.
