Leader of the Iraqi National Accord Iyad Allawi: Return of Christians and minorities to their homelands is a necessity to ensure social balance
BAGHDAD — The leader of the Iraqi National Accord Dr. Ayad Allawi stressed the crucial importance of the return of Christians and minorities to their original homelands, especially in Iraq, Syria, Lebanon and Palestine.
He stressed that they are an integral part of communities and partners in building their present and future.
“Christians and minorities have been a fundamental pillar in building history and culture of our Arab region. Preserving their rights and protecting them is everyone national and moral duty,” he added, noting that the return of Christians and minorities to their homelands is not just a humanitarian issue, but a necessity to ensure societal balance.
Allawi called on the international community and regional governments to commit to their responsibilities in providing a safe environment that ensures a dignified return to their cities and villages. In addition to compensating those affected, amid promoting citizenship, justice and equality for all, away from discrimination and sectarianism.
“The return of Christians and minorities to their homelands is a clear message that we are able to overcome challenges and divisions, as well as work together towards building a better future based on unity, brotherhood and equal citizenship,” Allawi concluded.
