March in Hamburg, Germany in support of Syrian ethnic components rights
HAMBURG, Germany — At the Hamburg Initiative, institutions of various Syrian ethnic components in the diaspora held a joint march, on situation of the Syrian components, in Hamburg, Germany to convey their voice and demands to Hamburg Municipality.
The demonstrators held candles in front of the Municipal Headquarters, and several speeches were made.
Representatives of Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) institutions participated in the march, including European Syriac Union (ESU), (Huyodo d’Neshe d’Bethnahrin, HNB) and Syriac Youth Association in Hamburg, as well as representatives of Kurdish, Yezidi and Alawite institutions, and other German parties, who came to support the demands of the demonstrators.
“As an ESU representative, I represent the voice of the indigenous Syriac and Christian people for thousands of years of the Beth Nahrin (Mesopotamia),” Shane Kurt, on behalf of ESU and Syriac Youth, stated.
She added that despite the persecution, pain and obliteration of identity of Syriacs and Christians, they are not alone today, and they will share with all ethnic components of Syria their pain and dreams of freedom and justice.
Markus Sass, a Syriac politician from the Social Democratic Party in Hamburg spoke about the cultural and religious mosaic of peoples of Syria and their rights to live in security and freedom.
“It is unacceptable that the international community stays silent, amid violations against religious and ethnic components in Syria,” Sass declared.
The representatives of Syriac people made three demands to the German officials, including the guarantee of freedom and security for all Syrian ethnic components, stop discrimination, tyranny and displacement, as well as the guarantee of rights of all peoples who wish to live in coexistence and peace.
