Syriac people protest to obtain their rights, at a call of Syriac Union Party in Syria

ZALIN, Syria Today, Syriac (Aramean-Chaldean-Assyrian) people and Christians in general, in Zalin (Qamishli), North and East Syria protested, at a call of the Syriac Union Party (SUP), to affirm their national and religious rights.

Gathering at the Sayfo Roundabout, the protestors carried banners under the slogan, “Establishment of Our National and Religious Rights, in a Democratic, Pluralistic and Decentralized Syria, Guarantees Our Continued Existence.”

Speeches were delivered by member of the Presidential Committee of the Bethnahrin National Council (Mawtbo Umthoyo D’Bethnahrin, MUB) Echoue Gouriye, Official of SUP Public Relations Afram Ishak, stressing the importance of preserving the Syriac identity and ensuring Syriac presence in Syria in the future.

The speeches also called for strengthening democracy and pluralism, with focusing on decentralization as a guarantee of protecting rights and maintaining stability.

The protesters called on the Syrian state to take serious steps to protect the rights of the ethnic components to strengthen civil peace and ensure the role of these ethnic components in building a democratic Syria.

The protest was concluded with affirmation of continued joint work to achieve just demands and ensure a better future.
