USUP President Ibrahim Mrad urges peace and neutrality as Lebanon elects General Joseph Aoun as president

BEIRUT — Ibrahim Mrad, leader of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), extended his congratulations to General Joseph Aoun on his election as President of Lebanon. Mrad called on the Lebanese people to embrace a culture of peace with all nations, including Israel, and urged Lebanon to adopt a position of neutrality in regional and global affairs.

In his congratulatory message, Mrad commended President Aoun’s national spirit and leadership, demonstrated during his tenure as commander of the Lebanese Armed Forces. He highlighted Aoun’s reputation for integrity and the widespread domestic and international support he enjoys as key indicators of his ability to lead.

Mrad also noted that Aoun’s inaugural address outlined a clear roadmap for restoring Lebanon’s dignity and stability, with a focus on justice, prosperity, and national unity.

Mrad pledged the USUP’s full support, both domestically and internationally, to aid President Aoun in strengthening Lebanon. He expressed optimism that Aoun’s presidency would foster unity and restore Lebanon’s standing among developed nations.

Advocating for Peace and Neutrality

In televised remarks, Mrad pointed out that several Gulf countries, including Saudi Arabia, have established agreements and normalized relations with Israel. He suggested that Lebanon should consider following a similar path to ensure its stability and economic prosperity.

Mrad emphasized a return to the principles of neutrality that once earned Lebanon the moniker “Switzerland of the East” during the 1960s. He explained that Lebanon’s avoidance of interference in the affairs of other nations allowed the country to thrive economically and socially during that period.

Mrad underscored Lebanon’s diversity, describing it as a pluralistic nation composed of various religious and ethnic communities. He reaffirmed that Lebanon has always been, and must remain, a country that embraces its multicultural identity.

A Vision for the Future

Mrad concluded by expressing confidence in Aoun’s ability to lead Lebanon toward national cohesion and progress. He characterized Aoun’s election as a pivotal step toward rebuilding the country’s institutions and restoring its reputation on the global stage.

Mrad’s statements reflect a broader vision for a peaceful and neutral Lebanon, navigating its way through a volatile region by fostering cooperation and dialogue with all nations.
