Syriac Union Party and Democratic Union Party discuss Syria’s future, advocate for inclusive governance

ZALIN, North and East Syria — The Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) hosted a delegation from the Democratic Union Party (Partiya Yekîtiya Demokrat, PYD) in Zalin (Qamishli) to discuss Syria’s ongoing political developments. Both parties underscored the importance of safeguarding the rights of all communities as the country transitions toward a new political framework.

In light of the rapid political changes following the fall of the regime of Bashar al-Assad, the SUP and PYD convened to foster dialogue and strengthen cooperation among political entities in North and East Syria.

The PYD delegation included Co-Chair Ghareeb Hesso, Presidential Council Member Sama Bakdash, and Women’s Council Member Hala. Representing the Syriac Union Party were Co-Chairs Sanharib Barsom and Shamiram Danho, along with Public Relations Officer Afram Ishak.

The discussions emphasized the necessity of building a future Syria that is inclusive of all its communities. Both parties highlighted the importance of explicitly recognizing the rights of all groups within the country’s legal and constitutional framework.

The leaders also discussed the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) as a viable governance model, advocating decentralization and democracy as key principles for Syria’s political reconstruction.

The meeting concluded with a mutual commitment to maintaining regular dialogue and strengthening ties. Both parties reaffirmed their dedication to cooperation and coordination to navigate Syria’s transitional period and build a stable, inclusive future for all its people.
