Syriac Union Party official Robel Bahho: Syria’s future must be built on a decentralized democratic system

ZALIN, North and East Syria — Robel Bahho, a member of the Syriac Union Party (SUP) General Council and Deputy Co-Chair of the Foreign Relations Commission of the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), has stressed the necessity of establishing a decentralized democratic system in Syria. Bahho made these remarks during a press statement amid ongoing discussions about Syria’s transitional political process and the drafting of a new constitution.

The Path to a New Syria

More than a month after the fall of Syria’s dictatorial regime, the nation’s future remains uncertain, with political reforms and constitutional changes dominating the national dialogue. Bahho highlighted that recent developments provide an opportunity to lay the foundation for a new Syria built on inclusivity and collaboration.

“Syria’s future must be shaped by all its people, regardless of their backgrounds,” Bahho stated, underscoring the need for a participatory and representative process.

A System Based on Freedom and Equality

Bahho emphasized the Syrian people’s legitimate demands for a system based on freedom, democracy, and equality. He called for the full recognition of women’s rights, advocating for a fair and equitable society for all citizens.

“These aspirations for a decentralized democratic system reflect the collective will of the people, who seek to overcome decades of injustice and build a sustainable, inclusive future,” Bahho concluded.

This call for reform underscores the growing momentum for a fair and democratic political framework that represents the diverse components of Syrian society.
