North and East Syria political parties condemn Turkish attacks, call for international action
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In response to intensified Turkish attacks on civilians and critical infrastructure in North and East Syria, 35 political parties and movements, including the Syriac Union Party (SUP), issued a joint statement condemning the aggression.
The statement described the attacks as a blatant violation of international humanitarian law and a serious threat to regional and global security and stability. It highlighted that at a time when the world seeks to establish peace, uphold human rights, and build a pluralistic democratic system in Syria following the fall of the Baath regime, Turkey persists in its acts of terrorism and aggression against North and East Syria.
According to the statement, recent Turkish airstrikes have caused civilian casualties, describing these actions as “a crime and a flagrant breach of international conventions.”
The political parties urged the international community to take immediate steps to halt the attacks. They appealed to the UN Security Council and the Arab League to adopt firm measures that would compel Turkey to cease its aggression and respect Syria’s sovereignty. The statement also called on the International Coalition to adopt a decisive stance to safeguard stability in the region.
The signatories reaffirmed their unwavering support for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), describing them as a steadfast protector and a key to a prosperous future for the region’s diverse communities. They also emphasized the importance of bolstering the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES) as a foundation for regional governance and stability.
