SDF General Commander Mazloum Abdi and KDP President Masoud Barzani and discuss Kurdish unity and Syria’s future in landmark meeting

ERBIL, Kurdistan Region of Iraq — In a landmark meeting, Masoud Barzani, President of the Kurdistan Democratic Party (KDP), hosted General Mazloum Abdi, General Commander of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), at the Salahaddin Resort in Erbil, Kurdistan Region of Iraq (KRI). The high-profile meeting focused on bolstering Kurdish unity and addressing pivotal political and security issues in Syria.

The discussions centered on Syria’s evolving political and security situation, with both leaders emphasizing the need for a unified Kurdish stance. They called for Syrian Kurdish parties to determine their future through peaceful means and urged collective efforts to negotiate agreements with Syria’s new authorities, ensuring the protection of Kurdish rights.

Barzani and Abdi highlighted the Kurdish role in fostering peace and stability in the region. They stressed the importance of preventing the recurrence of the tragedies that have impacted Kurdish and other communities during Syria’s prolonged conflict.

Hoshyar Zebari, a senior member of the KDP’s political bureau, lauded the meeting as a critical step toward greater Kurdish solidarity. “The meeting between Masoud Barzani and General Mazloum Abdi is a milestone in strengthening Kurdish cooperation,” Zebari remarked.
