Co-Chair of Peoples’ Democratic Council Siham Quryo: New Syrian constitution must represent women and all ethnic components
NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In public comments to Syrian media outlet Al-Sori, Siham Quryo, Co-Chair of the Peoples’ Democratic Council in the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), emphasized that Syria’s new constitution must be fair and inclusive, representing women and all ethnic components of the Syrian people.
Quryo highlighted the vital role women have played in the Syrian uprising and called for their meaningful participation in drafting the new constitution. She noted that women have endured displacement and made significant sacrifices, including losing their children in the pursuit of justice and freedom.
“Women in North and East Syria have gained substantial experience in various fields, including politics. They must have a prominent role in shaping the constitution,” Quryo stated, adding that their involvement is not only a matter of justice but also reflects their essential contributions to the Syrian people’s struggle.
Quryo also underscored the critical role of youth in Syria’s ongoing transformations, despite the immense challenges faced by the population in recent years. She stressed that youth participation is indispensable for ensuring the constitution reflects their aspirations and paves the way for a new Syria founded on justice and equality.
