North and East Syria Official Vivian Baho Oussi: Founding of Administration pivotal response to unprecedented crisis

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In comments to Syriac Press on the 11th anniversary of the founding of what would become the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), Vivian Baho Oussi, Co-Chair of the Executive Council of Gozarto (Jazira) Canton, hailed the establishment of the Administration as a transformative moment in the region’s history.

Oussi described DAARNES’s creation as a historic achievement, empowering the region’s peoples to take control of their destiny and manage their affairs independently.

Reflecting on the 11th anniversary of DAARNES, Oussi recounted its founding on 21 January 2014, as a pivotal response to a time of unprecedented crisis. Amid widespread conflict, terrorism, and the looming threat of the Islamic State (ISIS), the Administration became a vital beacon of hope and governance.

Oussi credited the region’s resilience to the solidarity of its diverse communities. This unity, she noted, enabled the administration to weather numerous adversities, demonstrating the strength of collaboration among its Syriac, Kurdish, Arab, Armenian, and other ethnic groups.

To commemorate its anniversary, the DAARNES reaffirmed its role as a safe haven for hundreds of thousands of individuals. In a public statement, it pledged continued efforts to ensure security, justice, and peace for all its inhabitants, striving to elevate the lives of Syrians in the face of ongoing challenges.

The establishment of DAARNES represented a solution to the chaos brought by war and the spread of ISIS. Over the past decade, it has stood as a model of governance rooted in inclusivity, stability, and democracy, offering hope for a brighter future for the region and beyond.
