Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II congratulates Joseph Aoun on his election as President of Lebanon
BEIRUT — Syriac Orthodox Patriarch Mor Ignatius Aphrem II visited the Baabda Presidential Palace in Beirut to formally congratulate General Joseph Aoun on his election as the new President of the Lebanese Republic.
During their meeting, Patriarch Aphrem II extended his best wishes to President Aoun, expressing hope that his leadership would steer Lebanon towards stability, economic recovery, and national unity. The Patriarch emphasized the pressing need for forming a new government to lead the reconstruction of Lebanon and restore dignity and rights to all its citizens.
Patriarch Aphrem II highlighted the historical and cultural contributions of the Syriac Orthodox Church in Lebanon, reiterating the importance of solidarity and collective efforts for the nation’s advancement. He affirmed the Church’s commitment to actively supporting the country’s development.
The Patriarch was accompanied by a delegation of prominent bishops from the Syriac Orthodox Church, including Metropolitan of Malankara Mor Gregorios Joseph, Metropolitan of Beirut Mor Clemis Daniel Kourieh, Metropolitan of Mount Lebanon and Tripoli Mor Chrysostomos Mikhael Shamoun, and Metropolitan of Homth (Homs), Hemto (Hama), and Tartous Mor Timotheos Matta Khoury.
The presence of this delegation underscored the Church’s unified support for Lebanon’s future under its new leadership. This visit represents a significant gesture of goodwill, demonstrating the Syriac Orthodox Church’s dedication to fostering unity and progress in Lebanon during this pivotal time.
