Syriac Union Party delegation meets religious leaders in Daramsuq to discuss current situation in Syria

DARAMSUQ — A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (Gabo d’Ḥuyodo Suryoyo, SUP) in Syria visited the Greek Orthodox Patriarchate in Daramsuq (Damascus), where they met with Patriarchal Vicar Bishop Romanos Hannat and Patriarchal Assistant Bishop Mousa Khoury. Led by Co-Chair Sanharib Barsom and accompanied by Relations Committee representative Nazira Goreya, and party member Malek Asmar, the group discussed critical issues surrounding Syria’s current phase.

Both sides emphasized the importance of uniting political parties, institutions, and Churches to preserve the Christian presence in Syria and ensure its active role in shaping the country’s future.



Building Bridges in Jaramana

The SUP delegation also visited Jaramana in the Daramsuq countryside, meeting with Sheikh Dr. Abu Ahed Haitham Katebeh, head of the Jaramana Council. Sheikh Abu Firas Burjas Haid, Sheikh Samir Fahd, and members of the Local Work Committee — including Zoukan Nasr, Salem Al-Maghribi, and Rabi’ Munzer — joined the discussions, along with civil activist Moufid Karbaj.

During the meeting, the delegation provided an overview of the party’s history, its struggles, and its political vision for Syria’s future. They discussed the importance of collaboration in building a new, democratic, and decentralized Syria.

Sheikh Abu Ahed praised the SUP’s efforts and emphasized the significance of fostering relationships among Syria’s diverse communities. Both sides reaffirmed their commitment to national unity, coexistence, and protecting the rights of all ethnic and religious groups in a united Syria.

The meetings highlighted a collective determination to uphold civil peace and promote mutual understanding among Syria’s communities, paving the way for progress toward a democratic and inclusive future for the country.
