YPG spokesperson Siyamend Ali: No division of Syria, no disarmament of SDF

NORTH AND EAST SYRIA — In an interview with Syriac Press, Siyamend Ali, spokesperson for the People’s Protection Units (Yekîneyên Parastina Gel, YPG), addressed critical issues in Syria, including ongoing discussions with the new government in Daramsuq (Damascus). Ali underscored the importance of maintaining dialogue between the Democratic Autonomous Administration of the Region of North and East Syria (DAARNES), the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), and the new leadership to resolve disputes and prevent further conflict between SDF and government forces.

Reaffirming Unity, Rejecting Division

Ali dismissed accusations that the SDF aims to divide Syria, instead highlighting a rare opportunity for national unity. “For sixty years, the Syrian people have been unable to unify under a dictatorship that fostered division,” he asserted. “With the dictator gone, the idea of dividing Syria is not on the table, and we will not allow it to become a reality.”

He called on all Syrian factions, parties, and communities to seize this opportunity to forge a united future for Syria.

Defending Sovereignty: The Role of Arms in SDF Strategy

On demands for the SDF to disarm, Ali firmly rejected such proposals, describing them as “suicidal” in the current environment. “The SDF carries arms to defend itself and the people of this region against threats, including ISIS, extremist groups, and Turkish-backed factions,” he explained.

Ali emphasized the ongoing Turkish aggression in northern Syria, warning that disarmament would leave millions vulnerable. “These weapons are not just for defense; they protect Syrian dignity and sovereignty,” he declared.

Ali reiterated the SDF’s commitment to Syria’s territorial integrity, envisioning the SDF as part of a unified Syrian army serving all citizens equally.

Territorial Stability in Dayro Zcuro

Addressing claims of instability in Dayro Zcuro (Deir ez-Zor), Ali clarified that the SDF maintains control over the region and is committed to ensuring its security and stability.

Ali concluded by expressing hope that the SDF’s dedication to national unity and defense will help pave the way for a stable and democratic Syria, free from external interference and internal divisions.
