SYRIA: Syriac Union Party visits churches and homes in Hmoth (Homs)

HMOTH, Syria — A delegation from the Syriac Union Party (SUP) visited churches and villages in Hmoth (Homs) and its countryside to strengthen connections with the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) community in the area. The tour included meetings with clergy and residents, aiming to foster unity and collaboration within the community.

The delegation, comprising Suhail Bahho, Marianna Issa, and Farid Soumi, engaged directly with local residents, who warmly welcomed their outreach efforts.

Key Church Visits and Discussions

The tour included a visit to the Church of the Annunciation in Ain al-Ajouz in the historic Wadi al-Nasara (Valley of Christians), where the delegation met with Father Yohanna Shahoud. They also held discussions with Father Polycarpus and members of the parish at St. Elias Church in Al-Hawash.

Conversations focused on addressing current challenges, emphasizing the importance of Christian unity and adopting a shared vision to advance the Syriac community’s interests.

Clergy expressed their support for the SUP’s efforts, underscoring the Christian community’s vital role in nation-building. They echoed calls for unity and reaffirmed their commitment to serving the Syriac (Aramean–Assyrian–Chaldean) people and contributing to Syria’s welfare.
