Universal Syriac Union Party discusses Lebanon’s future with Popular Bloc leader

ZAHLE, Lebanon — A delegation from the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP), led by Secretary-General Michel Malo, met with Myriam Skaff, leader of the Popular Bloc, at the Bloc’s office in Zahle, Lebanon. The meeting focused on Lebanon’s pressing political challenges, including the recent election of a new president following a prolonged vacancy and the need for a stable and credible government.

During the meeting, Malo was accompanied by Joseph Hamzo, the USUP coordinator in Zahle, and members of the party’s executive committee. Discussions centered on the critical need to elect a government capable of addressing the aspirations of the Lebanese people while earning trust at both the Arab and international levels to avert Lebanon’s deepening crisis.

Both parties underscored the importance of implementing international resolutions and ensuring that weapons remain solely in the hands of the Lebanese Army. They highlighted the necessity of moving away from chaos and insecurity, advocating instead for stability and prosperity.

The visit came against the backdrop of significant political developments, including the election of Joseph Aoun as President of Lebanon after more than two years of presidential vacancy. Aoun has tasked Nawaf Salam with forming a new government aimed at steering Lebanon out of its prolonged political and economic turmoil, a crisis further complicated by the influence of the Iranian-backed Hezbollah militia.

The dialogue between the USUP and the Popular Bloc reflects ongoing efforts to chart a unified path forward for Lebanon, emphasizing security, governance, and adherence to international frameworks as pillars of the country’s recovery.
