Hatay Academic Symphony Orchestra performs in Germany to support earthquake relief

MARBURG, Germany — The Hatay Academic Symphony Orchestra performed a benefit concert in Marburg, Germany, donating all proceeds to assist victims of the devastating February 2023 earthquake in Antioch (Antakya), Turkey.

Held at an Evangelical Church in Marburg and photographed by Abgar Ay, the concert conveyed a powerful message of solidarity and hope. Attendees from diverse communities were deeply moved by the orchestra’s performance, which served as both a cultural celebration and a humanitarian effort.

The orchestra showcased musicians from various cultural backgrounds, including Armenians, Turks, Arabs, and Jews, performing pieces that symbolized unity and mutual support. The diverse repertoire highlighted the harmonious collaboration of cultures in service of a common cause.



Prominent figures attended the event, including Mayor of Marburg Dr. Thomas Spies, who praised the initiative’s humanitarian impact. Representatives from the European Syriac Union, the Federation of Syriac Clubs in Germany, and the Turkish Red Crescent were also present, underscoring the widespread support for the cause.

Fikret Yuzgolin, head of humanitarian affairs for the Turkish Red Crescent, expressed deep appreciation to the orchestra, contributors, and Suroyo TV for raising awareness and delivering the event’s humanitarian message to a broader audience.

Conductor Ali Ugur announced plans for additional benefit concerts in cities like Stuttgart, aiming to continue raising awareness and providing aid to those affected by the earthquake. The orchestra’s efforts demonstrate the power of music to inspire hope and unite people in the face of tragedy.
