USUP President Ibrahim Mrad receives letter of thanks from Lebanese President Aoun
BEIRUT — After congratulating General Joseph Aoun on his election as President of Lebanon, President of the Universal Syriac Union Party (USUP) Ibrahim Mrad received a letter of thanks on behalf of President Aoun from Director General of Protocol Nabil Chedid.
In the letter to Mrad, Chedid expressed that Mrad’s congratulations embody a spirit of love and cooperation. He conveyed President Aoun’s heartfelt thanks, accompanied by wishes for God’s blessings on their shared efforts to serve Lebanon.
On 9 January, Joseph Aoun was elected President after more than two years of the position sitting vacant, following the end of the constitutional term of former President Michel Aoun. In his inaugural speech, President Aoun pledged to embark on a new chapter in Lebanon’s history.
He emphasized his commitment to exercising his role as Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces and Chairman of the Supreme Council of Defense. Aoun reaffirmed the state’s authority over the regulation of weapons and the establishment of stability.
President Aoun enjoys broad international and Arab support as a neutral figure dedicated to state-building. This backing is expected to play a pivotal role in enabling reforms and restoring public confidence in governance.
As mandated by the Lebanese Constitution, the president must be a Syriac-Maronite Christian, a criterion fulfilled by Joseph Aoun. Born in 1964 in Aishiyah, southern Lebanon, Aoun attended the Lebanese Military College and graduated as an officer in the Lebanese Army. His distinguished military career has been marked by successive promotions, underscoring his competence and discipline.
