In national address, Ahmed al-Sharaa outlines transitional phase plans

DARAMSUQ — In his first address to the Syrian people after being appointed president of the transitional government, Ahmed al-Sharaa outlined his plans for the transitional phase.

Al-Sharaa announced his intention to form a preparatory committee tasked with selecting a Mini Legislative Council to fill the legislative gap created by the dissolution of the People’s Assembly. This step is part of efforts to establish a functioning governance structure during the transitional period.

He revealed plans to convene a National Dialogue Conference in the coming days, describing it as a direct platform for consultations and discussions on the country’s political program. This initiative aims to foster broad-based dialogue among Syrians to shape the nation’s future.

Al-Sharaa pledged to issue a constitutional declaration to serve as the legal framework for the transitional phase. This declaration will provide guidance and reference for governance during the interim period.

In his address, Al-Sharaa emphasized the importance of achieving civil peace and prosecuting those responsible for crimes and bloodshed in Syria. He reaffirmed his commitment to maintaining Syria’s territorial unity and sovereignty under a single authority and within unified borders.

Al-Sharaa’s appointment was confirmed during a conference held Wednesday in Daramsuq (Damascus) by armed factions. Key decisions included the dissolution of the Syrian Army and security institutions tied to the former regime, the disbanding of the People’s Assembly, and the suspension of the 2012 Constitution.
