Car bomb kills 19 civilians in Mabbug (Manbij), northern Syria

MABBUG (MANBIJ), Syria – A heavy car bomb has claimed the lives of at least 18 women and a man, most civilian land workers, in the northern Syrian town of Mabbug (Manbij). According to news agency Reuters, the death toll is likely to rise.

It is yet another bombing in the area since Syria’s change of power after the fall of the dictatorial Assad regime in early December, 2024. Last Saturday, 4 people died and several were injured also in a car bomb attack.

Mabbug is located 30 kilometers from the Turkish border, north of Aleppo. The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) defend the area against the Turkish mercenaries of the Syrian National Army which moved into the area since December.

The SDF took Mabbug from the terrorist organization Islamic State in 2016.

The SDF Media Center issued a statement condemning the attack and calling for a joint investigation with authorities in Daramsuq (Damascus);

“Our Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) condemn the terrorist bombing that occurred this morning in Manbij. We reaffirm that the use of explosive devices, infighting, terrorism, chaos, and incitement to sedition are fundamental tactics employed by the mercenary factions affiliated with Turkey. These factions consistently resort to such methods to instill fear among the population and suppress any protests against the deteriorating conditions in Manbij, including theft, looting, and sexual violence committed by their members.”
