Head of Lebanese Forces Samir Geagea reiterates rejection of exclusive control of Finance Ministry to Hezbollah and Amal Movement
BEIRUT — Samir Geagea, Head of the Lebanese Forces party, stated that there are both good and bad political parties in Lebanon, and they cannot be treated equally. He emphasized that political work cannot be genuine without the involvement of political parties.
“No ministry should become exclusive to any party,” Geagea declared, addressing the controversy surrounding whether Prime Minister-designate Najib Mikati should include political party representatives in the new government. He stressed that he would not accept the exclusion of parties from the government, pointing out that political work worldwide relies on the participation of political parties.
Regarding the participation of the Shiite duo, Hezbollah and the Amal Movement, in the government, Geagea clarified that he has no objection to giving the Finance Ministry to the Shiite community, but not to the Amal Movement or Hezbollah.
He emphasized that the Lebanese people deserve a competent and effective government that aligns with their aspirations. The Amal Movement and Hezbollah, however, insists on retaining control of the Finance Ministry, despite both local and international opposition.
