Syriac Professor and US Presidential Advisor Gabriel Sawma confirms Trump Administration’s refusal to withdraw US troops from North and East Syria

WASHINGTON, D.C. —  Syriac Professor of International Law and Advisor to US President Donald Trump Gabriel Sawma stated in an interview with Kurdistan24 that the US military will remain in North and East Syria to protect the US interests.

Sawma added that the presence of US forces in the region is also linked to preventing the Islamic State (ISIS) from regaining their control over areas in Syria.

Sawma declared that Trump is well aware that the US has strategic interests in the Middle East, pointing out that there were discussions about the possibility of withdrawing US troops from Syria, but President Trump ultimately insisted that they remain there.

According to the US Department of Defense, there are 2000 US soldiers in Syria as part of efforts in the fight against terrorism.
