European Syriac Union congratulates Belgium’s new coalition government
BRUSSELS — The European Syriac Union (ESU) has extended its congratulations to Belgium’s newly formed government, established after months of negotiations following the June 2024 elections.
Acknowledging the political shifts across Europe and their impact on diverse communities, the ESU expressed its support for the coalition government led by Bart De Wever. In a statement posted on its official Facebook page, the union underscored the importance of this political development amid ongoing economic and political challenges in Europe.
The ESU highlighted that the formation of the new government represents a significant milestone in addressing the obstacles that have affected multiple sectors in Belgium over the past seven years. The ESU conveyed its best wishes to the new administration, hoping for increased stability and progress in the country.
Five political parties from across Belgium’s political spectrum reached an agreement on a government program set to guide the country for the next four years. Bart De Wever, leader of the Flemish nationalist New Flemish Alliance (Nieuw-Vlaamse Alliantie, N-VA), has been appointed Prime Minister.
The new government’s agenda includes budget cuts and social reforms aimed at alleviating economic pressures and ensuring a sustainable path forward for Belgium.
